Cone evolution on VUV laser ablated polymers
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report on conical microstructures formed on polycarbonate and polyallyl di-glycol carbonate (CR39) ablated using 157-nm F2 laser radiation. These are distinguished by having smooth, straight walls and, for CR39, sharp tips, together with interference and diffraction fringes around their base. Etch-rate modelling of a non-planar surface and diffraction-modulated fluence is used to explore how cones may evolve, and an estimate is made of thermal loading on microcones.

VUV 157 nm laser ablation of composite structures
We report on the laser ablation of composite prismatic structures using a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) 157 nm F2 laser. Polycarbonate and CR-39 substrates have been intentionally seeded with silver wires and silicon carbide whiskers respectively. The seed particles remain attached to the underlying substrate after laser ablation, forming composite silver-polycarbonate and silicon carbide-CR-39 inte...
متن کاملEvaluation of Crater Width in Nanosecond Laser Ablation of Ti in Liquids and the Effect of Light Absorption by Ablated Nano-Particles
Micro size craters were created by interaction of nanosecond laser beam with titanium target in liquid media. The dimension of crater i.e. depth and width is important in some applications such as micromachining. When the interaction occurs in liquid environment, the ablated materials from the target expand into the liquid. The ablated material can affect the interaction process if the ablated ...

Trace quantities of laser ablated organic polymers were analyzed by using commercial capillary column gas chromatography/mass spectrometry; the instrument was modified so that the iaser ablation products could be introduced into the capillary column directly and the constituents of each peak in the chromatogram were identified by using a mass spectrometer. The present study takes advantage of t...
متن کاملSurface characterization of laser-ablated polymers used for microfluidics.
Fabrication of microfluidic devices by excimer laser ablation under different atmospheres may provide variations in polymer microchannel surface characteristics. The surface chemistry and electroosmotic (EO) mobility of polymer microchannels laser ablated under different atmospheres were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and current monitoring mobility measurements, respectively. The ...
متن کاملFormation, detection, and stability studies of neutral vanadium sulfide clusters.
Neutral vanadium sulfide clusters are generated by the reaction of seeded hydrogen sulfide in a helium carrier gas with laser ablated vanadium metal within a supersonic nozzle. The exiting clusters are expanded into a vacuum in a molecular beam and are ionized by both ultraviolet (UV) and vacuum UV (VUV) laser radiation. The generated ions are detected by a time of flight mass spectrometer. Wit...
